Every Day Tablets has been the most popular variant within the Every Day range for many years. This is a one-a-day multi in tablet form, suitable for adults aged 18 and over. It is a carefully designed multi with essential micronutrients and special supplements. In its composition, the company has opted as far as possible for easily absorbable substances and compounds in the right proportions and with the most optimal dosages. Naturally, choices have been made here because only a limited amount fits into a tablet. Elke Dag will pass the comparison with other multi's with flying colours and is not for nothing the first choice of many therapists.

What's new?
The composition has been revised on the basis of the most recent scientific insights, tailored to current data regarding nutritional status in the Netherlands and the optimum intake amounts per nutrient. The dosage of some nutrients has been reduced. This applies, for example, to the various B vitamins. In a multi that is suitable for long-term use as a supplement to the diet, it is in many cases not necessary to dose them too high. And for some nutrients there was no substantiation for their necessity as a basic daily supplement, so they were omitted from the formula. This concerns inositol, PABA and chromium. By lowering the B vitamins, omitting the three nutrients mentioned and using other forms of compounds here and there, there was room in the tablet and room in the price to increase the dosage of other important nutrients. For example, more is known about the desired intake of choline and it has been increased from 25 mg to 85 mg per tablet. In addition, the dose of vitamin C has been increased from 100 mg to 160 mg, the dose of magnesium has been increased three times from 30 mg to 100 mg, and the dose of calcium has been increased from 30 mg to 150 mg, making it even five times higher! These are nutrients that take up a lot of space, but it is really important to get enough of them on a daily basis. Furthermore, the formula has been made more complete with meso-zeaxanthin as a supplement to lutein and zeaxanthin. Finally, vitamin K1 has been added and the amounts of vitamin K2, D3 and Q10 have been increased.

For whom
Every Day is specifically designed for adults. Vitals has developed separate multi's for children, elderly people and for women who are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. See also Every Day Junior, Every Day 50+ and Every Day Mama. Adolescents and (young) adults can choose Elke Dag Basis (1 per day) or Elke Dag Capsules (adolescents 1 capsule per day and adults 2 capsules per day). There is also the option of powdered Every Day for those who do not like to take a capsule or tablet, or who prefer to mix the multi into something. Adults and elderly people who want the best of the best choose Elke Dag Platinum (two tablets per day).

B vitamins in optimal forms and doses
The Every Day multi's contain generous but responsible amounts of B vitamins. The daily requirements have been carefully examined, as have the average intakes and their lower limits. The extent to which the body is able to convert the various B vitamins, the latest scientific insights and the safe upper limits have also been taken into account.

All formulas also contain the biologically active forms of vitamin B2 (riboflavin 5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt). These are the forms as they are used by the body and research shows that they have a higher bioavailability in the body.

Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5'-phosphate
Very high doses of vitamin B6 may occasionally cause tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. That's why a maximum safe upper limit of 21 mg per day for adults is used for vitamin preparations in the Netherlands. The Elke Dag multiples remain far below this limit (maximum 4.2 mg). In addition, only pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5'-P), the biologically active form of vitamin B6, is used and not pyridoxine-HCL which still has to be converted in the body. Further research is being done to find out if the above mentioned occasional side effects only occur with vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine-HCL and not, or to a lesser extent, with pyridoxal-5'-phosphate. There are indications that only pyridoxine-HCL in high doses is toxic for nerve cells.

Folic acid as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which for stability reasons is usually used in food supplements, is a synthetic form that does not occur in nature. In food it occurs as folate. Folic acid from supplements must be converted by the body into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Research shows that this complex conversion process is far from optimal in a significant group of people. Supplementation with 5-MTHF circumvents this problem.

In the Every Day multi's use is made of the superior form 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, bound to glucosamine salt (with the brand name Quatrefolic®). This bond with glucosamine salt (from vegetable sources) makes it possible to keep the biologically active form stable and ensures optimal absorption. Studies show that Quatrefolic® has a higher water solubility, stability and bioavailability. In addition, 5-MTHF is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike the 'regular' (synthetic) form of Folic acid.

Vitamin B12 as methyl- and adenosylcobalamin
The absorption of vitamin B12 from food is a complex process. In addition, there are indications that the RI (formerly RDA) of 2.5 mcg per day is underestimated and the need of healthy adults and the elderly may vary and may be more than 20 mcg per day. Because of the safety of vitamin B12 supplementation and the sometimes difficult absorption of B12 from food and supplements, the Elke Dag multiples contain generous doses of the biologically active forms methyl- and adenosylcobalamin.

Many other B12 products and multi's contain cyanocobalamin, which is a cheaper, synthetic form of vitamin B12 that does not occur in nature and has to be converted by the body into the active forms. In this process, the cyanide part is disconnected from the cobalamin (B12) and must then be cleared by the body. Studies show that vitamin B12 in the form of methyl- and adenosylcobalamin has a higher bioavailability than cyanocobalamin.

Reasonable vitamin D doses, from vegetable sources
European government bodies have determined in recent years that the level for an adequate intake of vitamin D from food should be higher (15 mcg) and that the maximum permitted dosage could be increased (100 mcg). In the Netherlands they are still cautious and indicate that 10 mcg is sufficient and that the maximum amount is 75 mcg. The RI (or ADH) is strangely enough stuck at 5 mcg. But in the orthomolecular world, the importance of higher doses has long been known. Leading vitamin D experts advise that the vitamin D level (calcidiol level) of adults should be at least 75 nmol/l. To maintain this level of vitamin D, an oral dose of vitamin D3 estimated at 25-75 mcg per day is needed.

The Elke Dag multiples contain generous doses of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). This form is much more effective than vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) in increasing the vitamin D level. Moreover, the new Every Day multiples use vegetable-based vitamin D3 (Vitamin D3V®). This is because it is produced from algae, and not from sheep's wool fat (like the vast majority of vitamin D3 products). All multi's in the Every Day range are now also suitable for vegans.

Vitamin K1 and K2
The Every Day multi's now also contain a small amount of vitamin K1, as well as a higher dose of vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is primarily taken up by the liver and is mainly responsible for the activation of coagulation factors, while vitamin K2 has greater bioavailability, is distributed much more widely throughout the body's tissues and is therefore more effective in activating other vitamin K-dependent enzymes such as osteocalcin and MGP. These ensure, among other things, that calcium is absorbed properly and ends up in the right place, namely in the bones.

The body will always use vitamin K first for the vital function of blood clotting. Because vitamin K2 is a much more expensive raw material than vitamin K1, a small amount of K1 is added to the multi's so that it can be used for the priority blood clotting function and the K2 can be used for the other, very important functions.

The regular RI for vitamin K is based on the amount needed for normal blood clotting. Oddly enough, this does not take into account the optimal dosage of vitamin K when it comes to other vitamin K-dependent body processes.

Stability of vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 appears to be a very sensitive substance. Especially in combination with calcium and / or magnesium, the content of this vitamin in a tablet or capsule decreases rapidly. Use of vitamin K2 in a product with high doses of calcium and / or magnesium is technically a real challenge. Vitals therefore uses a K2-ingredient with the brand name K2Vital® Delta, which is even stable in a formula with many of these minerals. It uses a patented micro-encapsulation process, in which the fat-soluble K2 particles are protected with two layers against air, light and interaction with other ingredients. Vitals has had research done, in an independent laboratory, into the stability of K2Vital® Delta and it came out on top. It was compared to other brands of vitamin K2, specifically in combination with the ingredients used in Vitals products. The conclusions were that protecting the K2 is absolutely necessary, that the K2 level remained well stable with K2Vital® Delta, and that it was superior to the other K2 ingredients.

Natural calcium and magnesium from the sea
From now on, calcium and magnesium of the Aquamin® brand will be used for the multi's, originating from the sea. In the tablets, much higher doses are achieved than previously used compounds, while the absorption of these ingredients has proven to be good.

The magnesium (Aquamin Magnesium) is obtained from the seawater of the Irish sea, and studies show that it is well absorbed by the body. In addition to about 35% elemental magnesium, the raw material also contains small amounts of over 70 trace elements.

The calcium (Aquamin Calcium) comes from a red alga called Lithothamnium calcareum. This type of algae takes in minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. While alive, it has a nice red/pink color, but when it dies, it calcifies and turns white or light gray. Only calcified red algae is harvested, from the waters along the coast of Iceland. In addition to 32% calcium, the raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of over 70 trace elements.

The synergetic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium, is possibly one explanation for the better absorption and the impressive studies that have been done with it.

Iron, zinc, copper and manganese as amino acid chelates (bisglycinates)
Amino acid chelates (bisglycinates) have been chosen for the minerals iron, zinc, copper and manganese. Each mineral particle is powerfully bound (chelated) to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. Minerals in this form of bond reach the small intestine easily and are absorbed very well. They are also mild to the stomach, which can be a great advantage, especially in the case of iron. Vitals also specifically chooses the amino acid chelates of Albion Minerals, recognizable by the trademark TRAACS®, which stands for The Real Amino Acid Chelate System. This trademark was created to distinguish Albion Minerals from other, possibly inferior, unstable amino acid chelates. Albion has over 100 patents worldwide guaranteeing the process, science and structure of their amino acid chelated minerals.

Unique: relatively high dosage of choline
Choline has long been a standard ingredient in multi-mixes. But almost always in low doses (between 10-30 mg). Because not much was known about it. But there is now increasingly more known! In 2012 the European Commission approved three health claims for choline, which apply to a dose of at least 82.5 mg. It is important for normal lipid metabolism, homocysteine metabolism and normal liver function. In 2016, an RDA was set for the first time in America at 550 mg/day, based on clinical studies specifically designed to determine daily requirements. In 2016, EFSA also ruled that choline is an essential nutrient, but has not yet set an RI. The adequate intake was however set at 400 mg/day, based on the average intake in European countries, and not based on the US study which came out at 550 mg/day. The average intake of adults in Europe varies between 291 and 468 mg/day. Reason enough to include a generous amount of choline in a daily multi!

The choline used in the Elke Dag multi's is from the VitaCholine® brand. This brand stands for superior quality and much research has been done.

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin
Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids. In the body there is a high concentration of these substances in the retina and macula lutea. The body cannot make lutein and zeaxanthin itself, but must obtain them from food. They can be found in green leafy vegetables and red, yellow and orange fruit and vegetables. Meso-zeaxanthin is only found in very small quantities in food (shrimps, the skin of salmon, the skin and flesh of trout). It is produced mainly in the retina by conversion of lutein through an enzymatic reaction. It can be well-supplemented. Meso-zeaxanthin has been known for a relatively short time to be a very good supplement, and is preferable to supplementation of only lutein and zeaxanthin.
